There are times when rest alone isn't enough to feel replenished.

Does your body
feel like this lately?

In traditional Korean medicine, 'Bo (補)' doesn't mean 'to add,' but rather
'to fill an empty space.'
If any one of Qi (氣), Blood (血), or Yang (陽) is depleted, the balance can be disrupted.

1

The void after a major illness

After surgery or a prolonged cold, your previous vitality doesn't return. Tests show no issues, yet your body continuously feels depleted.

2

Condition falters with every change of season

You tend to fall ill first with every seasonal change, and recovery takes longer. It feels like this period lengthens with each passing year.

3

Cold hands and feet, pale complexion

Your hands and feet feel cool even in summer. You've been told your complexion looks dull, and you find yourself getting breathless after just a few flights of stairs.

4

What to give your parents

They already take red ginseng, and trendy health foods change every year. You want to give them something time-tested, but you're unsure what that might be.

Sipjeon is not a newly created combination.
It is an original formula (原方) combining two already proven prescriptions.

First, we replenish what is empty.

Gujeung Gupo Sipjeon approaches with
three key principles

We've grouped ten herbs into three pillars.
We openly disclose which herb belongs to which pillar.

Qi

Replenishing Qi · Sagunja

Insam (Ginseng) · Baekchul (Atractylodes Rhizome) · Baekbokryeong (Poria) · Gamcho (Licorice) · Hwanggi (Astragalus)

This pillar replenishes the energy that moves the body. All four herbs of Sagunja-tang are included. Ginseng establishes Qi, Atractylodes Rhizome supports the spleen and stomach, and Poria removes dampness that accumulates during replenishment. Additionally, Astragalus is added to establish Wei Qi (衛氣), which protects the body's exterior.

Blood

Replenishing Blood · Samul

Sookjihwang (Rehmannia Root) · Dangwi (Angelica Gigas) · Baekjakyak (White Peony Root) · Cheongung (Cnidium Rhizome)

This pillar moistens the body. All four herbs of Samul-tang are included: Sookjihwang replenishes Blood, Dangwi nourishes, Baekjakyak consolidates, and Cheongung promotes its circulation. Cheongung is essential because replenishment alone can lead to stagnation.

Yang

Replenishing Yang · Warming Circulation

Gyepi (Cinnamon Bark)

This pillar enables the utilization of what has been replenished. Even with Qi and Blood, if the body is cold, they won't circulate. Gyepi warms the depleted Myeongmun (命門) Yang energy, allowing the preceding nine herbs to effectively circulate. Additionally, ginger and jujube, added during decoction, support the stomach and intestines to aid absorption.

Why Ten Ingredients?

The easiest way to create a tonic is to heavily concentrate a single well-known herb. Even just ginseng or deer antler can make a product sound impressive.

However, the ways in which the body becomes depleted are not singular. Those with insufficient Qi, those with insufficient Blood, and those whose bodies are too cold to utilize what they have are all different. Concentrating on just one ingredient might suit only one type of person, becoming a burden for others.

That's why Sipjeon addresses all three pillars. Sagunja-tang (Qi) and Samul-tang (Blood) are combined, with Hwanggi for defense and Gyepi for warmth, totaling ten ingredients. Additionally, ginger and jujube, traditionally added when decocting tonics, bring the total to 12 ingredients according to labeling standards. This combination was perfected 600 years ago, and Jaimdang uses the original formula as is.

The only aspect we've touched is the preparation method. Sookjihwang undergoes Gujeung Gupo — steamed and dried nine times to remove its bitter taste. That's why the list of raw ingredients is short. A 98.6% plant extract blend and domestic honey — these two are all.

600 Years of Records

It is a structure that
combines two already proven prescriptions

Sipjeon (十全) means 'all ten are complete.' By combining Sagunja-tang (for Qi) and Samul-tang (for Blood), and adding Hwanggi and Yukgye, it simultaneously reinforces Qi, Blood, and Yang.

Sagunja-tang (for Qi) + Samul-tang (for Blood) + Hwanggi · Yukgye = Sipjeon
Sipjeondaebo is not a newly created combination, but a structure that overlays two existing prescriptions. It consists of four herbs from Sagunja-tang to replenish Qi, four herbs from Samul-tang to replenish Blood, with Hwanggi and Yukgye added to make a total of ten.
In Gujeung Gupo Sipjeon, — It's not a simple summation. Its significance lies in simultaneously reinforcing the three pillars of Qi, Blood, and Yang, which is why it's used for a generally depleted state rather than a specific deficiency.
Formulation recorded in Donguibogam (東醫寶鑑) · Sipjeondaebo (十全大補)
If deficient (虛), nourish its mother (補)
A principle from the 'Miscellaneous Diseases' chapter of Donguibogam. It's the perspective that rather than directly addressing the symptomatic area, one should replenish the fundamental source.
In Gujeung Gupo Sipjeon, — This principle, 'when the root is full, the branches grow,' is why Sipjeon is used during recovery and seasonal changes. It doesn't fix one thing, but elevates the foundation.
Donguibogam (東醫寶鑑) · Japbyeongpyeon (Chapter on Miscellaneous Diseases)
Hwanggi is an herb Donguibogam identifies as a prime representative for replenishing Qi (補氣)
Hwanggi is recorded as an herb that establishes Wei Qi (衛氣), which protects the body's exterior. Together with Ginseng from Sagunja-tang, it forms two pillars for replenishing Qi.
In Gujeung Gupo Sipjeon, — This targets cases where one falls ill first with every seasonal change and recovery is slow. It's why Hwanggi is added to Sagunja-tang in Sipjeon.
Donguibogam (東醫寶鑑) · Naegyeongpyeon (Chapter on Internal Organs), Gimun (Chapter on Qi)
Gujeung Gupo (九蒸九曝) is a traditional processing method for Sookjihwang
A processing technique where herbs are steamed and dried nine times repeatedly. It has been used for hundreds of years to remove the bitter taste of Sookjihwang and stabilize its properties.
In Gujeung Gupo Sipjeon, — This is why Sipjeon is pleasant to drink. We didn't remove ingredients or add sugar for taste; we solved it through the processing.

When I was in Korean medicine school, I heard stories about places mixing caramel or similar ingredients to achieve the color of Sookjihwang.

Sookjihwang only becomes dark and lustrous after Saengjihwang is steamed and dried nine times. That dark color is a sign of proper processing, but if the color can be faked, there's no reason to complete all nine steps, as it's indistinguishable from the outside.

So, I decided to do it myself. We receive Saengjihwang, then steam and dry it, and repeat the steaming and drying nine times, until the color is just right. When I used what was made this way in my practice, the results were different. We've been making it the same way ever since.

We don't do it nine times to achieve the color; the color emerges when it's done nine times.

Gujeung Gupo is labor-intensive. During the nine repetitions, the production line must be dedicated solely to that one batch. It's a process that doesn't make economic sense for factories that need to process products for multiple companies.

To extract quickly, one can raise the temperature. But this causes the aroma to dissipate and leaves a bitter taste. So, instead of temperature, we use time. We soak it in cold water for 24 hours, then extract it at a low temperature for 12 hours. This is a one-and-a-half-day process, which also requires dedicating the production line for an extended period.

JAIMDANG BIO produces only JAIMDANG products. Since we don't process goods for others, we can dedicate our production lines for extended periods, allowing us to incorporate this meticulous process. The sweetness comes solely from domestic honey. The ingredient composition is researched in collaboration with the Korean medicine doctors and herbalists of Jaimdang Korean Medicine Clinic, and manufacturing is handled by JAIMDANG BIO.

When,
and How

Rather than seeking immediate effects,
consistent consumption is the principle of 'Bo (補)' prescriptions.

Drink it warm, 30 minutes before a meal. Absorption is best when the stomach is empty.

Consistently during Seasonal Changes · Recovery Periods

It aligns with the purpose of 'Bo (補)' prescriptions to consume it continuously during seasonal transitions or after recovering from a major illness.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

How is it different from Ssanghwa?

Ssanghwa focuses on balancing the two pillars of Qi and Blood with 9 herbs, while Sipjeon further reinforces Yang (陽) by adding ginseng, Atractylodes Rhizome (Baekchul), and Poria. If your concern is fatigue or circulation, Ssanghwa might be more suitable; for overall replenishment after a major illness or general wellness, Sipjeon is closer to what you need.

Can I take it with red ginseng?

Sipjeon also contains ginseng, so consuming them together would result in overlapping ginseng intake. Particular caution is needed if you have a warm constitution or high blood pressure, so please consult a specialist if you plan to take them together.

Is it suitable as a gift for parents?

100ml × 30 pouches are delivered in a gift box. However, when gifting to someone with high blood pressure or who is taking medication, please also convey the consumption guidelines mentioned above.

What is Gujeung Gupo?

It is a traditional processing technique where herbs are steamed and dried nine times. This method has been used for hundreds of years to remove the bitter taste of Sookjihwang and stabilize its properties, and it is also why Sipjeon is pleasant to drink.

How much should I drink?

A 'Bo (補)' prescription is not about achieving immediate effects. We recommend drinking it warm on an empty stomach in the morning, and continuously during seasonal changes or recovery periods. One set consists of 30 pouches.

When the root is full, the branches grow.
